Hello & Welcome To Le Voov!

Welcome Image

I created Le Voov! as an outlet to share my various interests and adventures in nutrition, cooking, healthy longevity, fitness, travel, family (including the fur-people!), gardening, and fun!  My approach is a playful blend of simple, common sense mixed with the latest nutritional information to provide you with a balanced understanding of living a Voovacious lifestyle.

I have immense appreciation for a back-to-basics approach in life. I keep most of my dietary focus on utilizing seasonal and organic ingredients, accessing my local farmer’s markets as much as possible. The idea of eating clean, unprocessed food that is low in sugar and refined starches makes good sense to me. My philosophy is to enjoy colorful, nutritious food as often as possible, which includes occasionally indulging in the glories of decadence in moderate proportions.

Creating a diet of clean fruit, vegetables, nuts, cheese, eggs, whole grains, legumes, humanely raised meats and sustainable wild fish appeals to me both logically and creatively. I’m not a big fan of restrictive fad diets or eliminating good, wholesome food groups from the menu. Further, I am not a proponent of GMOs (Genetically modified organisms), nor do I support overly-processed/refined ingredients, hydrogenated oils or other unhealthy, corrupted fats, artificial preservatives, dyes, unnatural forms of sugar, or fruit, vegetables, fish or meat exposed to growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, insecticides, or germicides.

Le Voov! supports the conscious, mindful enjoyment of consuming real food to achieve optimum health and balance in life. True nourishment feeds the mind, the body, and the soul. Nutrition should not be defined by restrictions and limitations, rather creative exploration, open-mindedness, and genuine curiosity. When I go to a farmers market or the produce section in the grocery store, the true hunter-gatherer comes out in me as I seek new, fresh experiences. I fondly refer to this state of mind as exploring my epicuriousity!

Often I am asked if I have a favorite food. I always find this question perplexing due to the expansive selection of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and exotic meat choices there are to choose from here in Northern California. But if I had to define a few that top my list, they would most certainly include garlic, avocados, lemons, vine-ripe tomatoes, wild mushrooms, cheese and hot chili peppers!

I strongly encourage the consumption of natural, pre-wrapped, fast foods that come in the form of bananas, hard-boiled eggs, grapefruits and walnuts, for example. Another of my personal favorites is gourmet organic jerky. I keep several packages of it in my car at all times along with dried fruits and nuts and a good supply of filtered water. My husband is convinced that we could survive a natural disaster just by accessing all the food in my glove box! 🙂

When people learn that I work in the field of nutrition, they invariably ask “What’s the best way to drop 10 pounds quickly?” Unfortunately, there is no single answer to that very complex question. However, the frequency of this question continues to foster my curiosity to expand my knowledge regarding the latest research and developments in areas of nutrition, cooking and healthy living.

Live! Life’s a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!

My mother loves to quote Rosalind Russell from the 1958 movie Auntie Mame; “Live! Life’s a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!” In keeping with those sentiments, I have created a collaborative approach to my daily eating habits, incorporating aspects from vegetarians, pescetarians, cavemen, beach-goers, carnivores, omnivores, raw, cooked, grilled, fasting, juicing, and cleansing. Basically, I believe in enjoying and exploring my inner-Voov through the bounty of good, clean food every day and look forward to sharing my journey with you!
